Woman Killed in 4th Street Shooting; LCPD Launches Manhunt
By Laura Pritchard, Staff Writer
LIBERTY CITY, 4th Street – A quiet residential complex on the city's outskirts was shaken late Saturday night after a woman was shot and killed, prompting a massive police response and an ongoing manhunt for the suspect.
According to Liberty City Police Department (LCPD) officials, multiple emergency calls were made just after 11:35 PM. Neighbors reported hearing a woman screaming, followed by three rapid gunshots echoing through the complex along 4th Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in an apartment inside one of the residential buildings.
Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Residents described panic and confusion as patrol cars, crime-scene units, and even an LCPD helicopter flooded the area within minutes. The complex’s parking lots and adjacent basketball court were quickly secured as officers searched for any trace of the fleeing suspect.
“We heard screaming first… then three really loud shots,” said one resident who lives in a building facing the courtyard. “By the time we looked outside, the shooter was already gone.”
Investigators believe the suspect fled on foot through one of the paths leading toward the wooded area behind the complex or possibly toward the main road, where traffic cameras may have captured additional clues. Officers conducted door-to-door interviews late into the night, checking nearby buildings and vehicles, but so far, the shooter has not been located.
Police have not released details about the victim’s identity or a possible motive. They confirmed only that the suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
“We are asking anyone who was in the area, anyone who heard or saw something unusual, to contact us immediately,” LCPD spokesperson Daniel Cross said. “Our officers are actively searching the area, and we will not stop until the suspect is found.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the residential complex remains partially cordoned off as forensic teams continue to gather evidence.
More updates will follow as information becomes available.
